Last reviewed April 2026 · Swift Key San Diego

Most San Diego homes shipped from the builder with ANSI Grade-3 deadbolts and factory 3/4" strike-plate screws. Both are fine for interior doors and both fail quickly on a determined kick-in attempt. The gap between "builder-grade" and "actually secure" is usually $200–$600 of hardware and a single service call.

This audit identifies the gaps. It's the same walkthrough our techs would do on-site, minus the physical inspection. Answer honestly — the tool is local to your browser and nothing is sent to us unless you call.

What does my score mean?

80–100
Solid. Your home is well above the average San Diego residential security baseline. Minor hardening only, if any.
60–79
Above average. One or two specific upgrades (typically strike plates + a Grade-2-to-Grade-1 deadbolt) close the gap.
40–59
Typical builder-grade. Multiple high-impact fixes available. Most 2-door homes close the gap for $400–$700 in one service call.
0–39
At-risk. Multiple critical gaps. Prioritize: strike-plate reinforcement first (cheapest), then deadbolt upgrade, then rekey.

Common questions about this audit

Who is this home security audit for?

San Diego County homeowners and renters who want a second opinion on whether their current locks, deadbolts, and entry hardware are adequate. The audit takes 3 to 5 minutes and returns a score from 0 to 100 plus a prioritized fix list.

Is this a real audit or just a marketing quiz?

The scoring is based on ANSI/BHMA grade standards, the published failure modes of residential hardware, and California Building Code requirements. The fix list is the same one our techs would recommend on an in-person walkthrough. It is not a substitute for a physical walkthrough, but it catches the most common gaps.

How accurate is the cost estimate?

The cost ranges reflect typical 2026 mobile-locksmith pricing in San Diego County, sourced from our own service-call data and cross-referenced with industry averages. Actual quotes depend on specific hardware choices, door condition, and whether additional door-frame repair is needed. We quote firm before any work starts.

Do I need to give you my email to see results?

No. The audit runs entirely in your browser — no email, no sign-up, no data leaves the page. If you want us to handle any of the recommended fixes, call or use the contact form.

What if my score is low?

A low score means there are high-impact cheap fixes available — usually a mix of strike-plate reinforcement (about $20 per door in parts), rekey or deadbolt upgrades, and basic smart-home integration. Most 2-door homes can move from Grade-3 to Grade-1 security for under $500 in one visit.

Is a Grade-1 deadbolt really necessary in San Diego?

Not for every home. Inland tract homes in safe neighborhoods with neighbors watching typically do fine with Grade-2. Coastal, rural, or recent-break-in-area homes benefit more from Grade-1. The audit factors in your neighborhood risk when recommending.
