A mobile locksmith brings their shop to the door, the car, or the storefront. Swift Key San Diego does not own that van. We connect you with independent licensed locksmiths who decide what they carry, whether they can finish on site, and what they charge.

What “mobile” means
The locksmith’s vehicle, not a Swift Key fleet. Many automotive and residential techs carry:
- Key machines for common house and car blanks (restricted and dealer-gated keys are a different authorization)
- Programmers for transponder and many smart keys
- Common residential and commercial cylinders and deadbolts
- Picks, extractors, and rekey kits
That inventory is theirs. “Dealer-only” keys still need the authorization the manufacturer requires. Do not assume every van originates every car key.
The point of mobile is that the lock stays where it is: a house, an office, or a Mission Valley parking lot.
Where referrals go
Independent locksmiths can quote jobs across coastal cities (Imperial Beach through Oceanside, including Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad), North County inland (Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Poway, Rancho Bernardo), the city core, South Bay, and East County (La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee). Coastal air is hard on cylinders. That is a hardware fact, not a stocking promise.
Matching is “who can take this job,” not a guaranteed closest-van timer.
What they often finish on site, and what they may not
Often on site when they have the parts: emergency lockouts, many car lockouts and car keys, rekeys, repairs and replacements they stock, new deadbolts, broken-key extraction.
Shop or follow-up work: antique restoration, a large master-key build, or a car the tools do not support. There is no honest “95 percent first visit” figure on this page.
How quoting should work
- You describe the lock or the vehicle and the city.
- A photo helps identify a blank or a cylinder.
- The locksmith (not Swift Key) gives a quote or a tight range: trip, labor, parts.
- They confirm on site before they start.

Why people choose mobile
You do not tow a car for a key the tech can program in the lot. You do not pull a lock and drive it to a shop for a standard rekey. You watch the work. None of that is a Swift Key arrival guarantee.
Renters: they should still ask for ID and a lease. That is normal. Related: when to call a mobile car locksmith, residential services guide, RV locksmith work.
Frequently asked questions
How long until a mobile locksmith arrives?
Depends on who accepts and where they are. Escondido and Poway can be a longer drive than central San Diego. No minute promise.
Can they make a car key on the spot?
Many makes, if they have the blank and software. Some late models are dealer-only. Ask.
What does the service call cost?
The locksmith quotes trip plus the job. A home lockout is not priced like a car lockout or a per-cylinder rekey.
Commercial as well as residential?
If that locksmith does commercial hardware. Commercial lockout is a different skill than a house deadbolt.
Is it safe if I rent?
Yes if they verify you. Marked vehicle or company ID plus a BSIS number.
